How well do the cedar kits hold up in coastal salt air environments?

Western Red Cedar holds exceptionally well in coastal environments with salt air due to its natural resistance to rot, decay, and insects. Its low density and shrinkage make it dimensionally stable, so it won’t warp or crack easily in fluctuating humidity. Salt air doesn’t degrade the wood itself, though using stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized fasteners is essential to prevent metal corrosion. While cedar will naturally gray over time, applying a UV-protective oil or stain can preserve its appearance and extend its lifespan to 30 years or more with minimal maintenance.
